“The Sounds of Jackson Heights” is a short documentary I filmed and produced for The Bengal Gazette, a Bengali cultural magazine based at University of California, Berkeley. The film features an iconic, multicultural neighborhood in Jackson Heights, Queens, in New York City, which transcends the boundaries of religion, nationality and language as people from different South Asian regions unite over food and local business.

The story featured a photograph that I had taken in its print and online edition on May 30, 2021, of Mayuri Bhattacharjee, the organization’s founder, leading a menstrual hygiene workshop in rural Assam.
